JKIA Temporarily Closed Due to Unauthorized Access by Mourners

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has announced the temporary suspension of all flight operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) effective immediately according to the Director General of Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Emile N. Arao.
The closure is a necessary security precaution after a significant number of mourners, gathered to receive the remains of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya, entered restricted areas of the airport.
Security teams are currently on-site to manage the situation, clear the secured areas, and ensure the safety of all personnel and the public. We anticipate resuming normal operations within approximately two hours, pending a full security clearance.
Travel Advisory:
· All passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information and rescheduling.
· The public is urged to avoid the JKIA precinct until further notice to facilitate the swift resolution of this operation.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to inform the aviation community of this temporary closure.
The KCAA regrets the inconvenience caused to travelers and the public and appreciates your patience and cooperation as we work to restore normal operations safely and efficiently.
