Emirates Begins Construction of One of the World’s Largest Aircraft Maintenance Centers

Emirates has officially begun construction of a massive aircraft maintenance and overhaul center in the Dubai South district.
The project, valued at approximately $5.1 billion, is expected to become one of the world’s largest airline-operated maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities once completed. Located near Al Maktoum International Airport, the complex is also considered a key part of Dubai’s new mega airport development project.
The 1.1 million square meter facility will reportedly be capable of servicing up to 28 wide-body aircraft simultaneously. The complex will include maintenance hangars, paint facilities, logistics centers, and landing gear workshops for aircraft such as the Airbus A380, Boeing 777, and future Boeing 777X models.
The main contractor for the project is China-based China Railway Construction Corporation, while French engineering company Artelia is serving as the technical consultant. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the mid-2030s.
