AFCAC Reappoints Adeyemi Adefunke as Secretary General for Second Term

The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) has reappointed Ms. Adefunke Adeyemi to a second term as Secretary General, running from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2028. The decision reaffirms confidence in her leadership, vision, and dedication to advancing Africa’s aviation sector.
Ms. Adeyemi, who first assumed the role in September 2022 and was reappointed in November 2024, will continue driving AFCAC’s mission to promote safe, secure, sustainable, and connected air transport across the continent.
“It is an honour to continue serving Africa and its people through aviation and AFCAC,” said Ms. Adeyemi. “As we advance the full implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), strengthen aviation safety, security, and sustainability, I remain deeply committed to contributing towards a unified African aviation.”
During her first term, AFCAC:
Enhanced member state support in aviation safety, security compliance, and capacity building.
Accelerated the rollout of SAATM, the AU’s flagship air transport liberalization initiative.
Built strong partnerships with regional and global stakeholders.
Advocated for inclusive policies on climate action, youth empowerment, and gender equity in aviation.
Before joining AFCAC, Ms. Adeyemi held senior positions at IATA, including Regional Director of External Affairs & Sustainability for Africa, where she championed SAATM and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). She also served as Company Secretary and General Counsel for Virgin Nigeria Airways.
Her new term is expected to consolidate AFCAC’s role as a unifying voice for African aviation and a driver of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 goals for integration and sustainable development.
