Qantas to Launch World’s Longest Nonstop Flight by 2027
Qantas Airways, Australia’s National carrier is set to make aviation history in 2027 with the launch of the world’s longest nonstop commercial flight—from London to Sydney—under its ambitious “Project Sunrise” initiative. The ultra-long-haul journey will span over 16,800 kilometers and take approximately 22 hours.
The groundbreaking service will be operated using the next-generation Airbus A350, specially configured for extended flights. These aircraft will feature reduced passenger capacity, spacious first-class suites, and dedicated wellness zones designed to mitigate the effects of long-haul travel.
Qantas has placed an order for 12 Airbus A350s, with the first delivery expected in late 2026. Originally slated for a 2025 debut, Project Sunrise was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and aircraft production disruptions.
“Direct flights like this will revolutionize international travel by eliminating stopovers and drastically reducing total journey times,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.
With Project Sunrise back on track, Qantas is positioning itself at the forefront of long-distance aviation, promising a new era of comfort and convenience for global travelers.
