Kenya Airways and Air Tanzania Sign Strategic Partnership to Boost Regional Connectivity
In a landmark move for East and Southern African aviation, Kenya Airways and Air Tanzania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation and enhancing air connectivity across the region.
The agreement, signed at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam, sets the stage for deeper collaboration between the two national carriers, prioritising partnership over competition. Both airlines will leverage their resources and expertise to drive sustainable, cost-effective growth while improving travel options for passengers and cargo clients.
Under the MoU, key areas of cooperation include:
- Human resource development and training
- Engineering and aircraft maintenance
- Technical and safety operations
- Cargo handling and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO)
- Innovation and operational best practices
The collaboration reflects a shared ambition to create a more integrated and efficient African aviation network, supporting economic growth, tourism, and trade.
“This partnership underscores our commitment to building regional capacity to support economic growth, trade, and tourism across East Africa,” said Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Airways. “By working closely with Air Tanzania, we can jointly offer more flexible and efficient travel solutions.”
Peter Ulanga, CEO of Air Tanzania, highlighted the broader impact of the alliance:“This marks a significant milestone in our efforts to expand our regional presence and better serve the growing demand for air travel in Africa. Together, we are creating a stronger, more connected aviation landscape that will benefit our economies and our people.”
The Kenya Airways–Air Tanzania partnership is expected to unlock new markets, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen Africa’s competitiveness in global aviation. More importantly, it promises to bring greater convenience, choice, and value to travellers and businesses throughout the region.
