Entebbe Airport Leaders Undergo ICAO Crisis Management Training

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA), has officially launched a five-day ICAO Aviation Security Crisis Management workshop. The training, inaugurated by UCAA’s Director of Safety, Security and Economic Regulation, Eng. Ronny Barongo, is currently underway at the Protea Hotel in Entebbe.

Designed specifically for the middle and senior management teams of Entebbe International Airport, the intensive program aims to sharpen their skills in organizing, planning, assessing, and responding decisively to acts of unlawful interference. As global aviation threats evolve, the workshop ensures that Uganda’s primary air hub is prepared to manage major security emergencies with precision. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the strategic and operational elements necessary to coordinate effective emergency responses, thereby minimizing risks to passengers, staff, and critical infrastructure.

The training brings together a diverse range of key aviation stakeholders. Representatives from various security organizations, ground handling agencies, and essential airport departments are actively participating, fostering a cohesive, multi-agency approach to crisis management. This collaborative environment is critical for streamlining communication and ensuring unified decision-making during high-stakes incidents.

By integrating ICAO’s best practices with CASSOA’s regional oversight expertise, this initiative underscores Uganda’s unwavering dedication to upholding the highest safety and security standards. The workshop is expected to significantly enhance the resilience of Entebbe’s leadership, equipping them with the foresight and practical strategies needed to safeguard the nation’s aviation gateway against potential threats and operational disruptions.
