US-TSA visits South Africa to Assess South Africa Aviation Security Standards

The United States’ Transport Security Administration (TSA) visited South Africa last week to assess the implementation of civil aviation security standards and recommended practices, under Annex 14 & 17.

Additionally, the US-TSA conducted on-site inspections of approved regulated agents/known consignors to ensure compliance with the applicable TSA aviation security regulations.

The information from cargo inspections is used by US-TSA to sustain the recognition of South Africa’s National Cargo Security Programme, the implementation of the facility security, personnel security, screening, training, chain of custody and oversight procedures.

The preliminary results found the South Africa systems to be compliant with ICAO Standards and Recommended practices with the final report expected in 90 days.

The US-TSA Delegation was hosted at the offices of their South African counterparts before paying a visit to both the OR Tambo and Cape Town international airports on their working visit.
