Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Hosts Aviation Weather Awareness Workshop to Boost Flight Safety
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with the Department of Meteorological Services under the Ministry of Water and Environment, has convened the Aviation Weather Awareness Workshop from 14–15 August 2025 at the Imperial Golf View Hotel in Entebbe.
Opening the event, UCAA Director General Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye stressed that accurate, timely, and reliable weather information is vital for flight safety, operational efficiency, and effective planning from take-off to landing.
The workshop has drawn together meteorologists, aviation professionals, airline operators, air traffic controllers, and other stakeholders to:
- Foster stronger coordination between meteorology and aviation
- Enhance operational efficiency
- Build consensus on aviation weather mandates
- Improve preparedness for climate-related challenges
Mr. Bamwesigye highlighted that with aircraft movements rising from 21,584 in 2021 to 32,552 in 2024, it is critical to strengthen safety measures to keep pace with operational growth. He urged participants to share knowledge, experiences, and innovative solutions that will advance Uganda’s aviation safety and efficiency.
Reinforcing the message, Dr. Bob Alex Ogwang, Commissioner for Meteorology, emphasized the value of partnerships, noting: “Weather information is only as valuable as the action it inspires. By working together, we can turn forecasts into proactive safety measures.”
The two-day event reaffirms UCAA’s unwavering commitment to its core mission: Safety, Safety & Safety.
