Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Concludes Hosting of the 15th IFATSEA Africa Regional Meeting
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority yesterday 19th June 2025 successfully concluded the 15th International Federation of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Associations (IFATSEA) Africa Regional Meeting, hosted by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) in partnership with UGATSEA, at the Speke Resort Convention Centre, Munyonyo.
Running from June 17–19, 2025, the meeting brought together over 100 aviation safety professionals and engineers from across Africa and beyond, under the theme:
“Digital Transformation in CNS/ATM: Strengthening ATSEP Competencies for a Safer and Sustainable Future.”
Over the three-day event, delegates participated in discussions on transformative technologies shaping the aviation sector, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, predictive maintenance, and the use of drone technology for flight calibration. These sessions reinforced the need for regional collaboration, innovation, and continuous professional development for Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEPs).
Delivering his closing remarks, UCAA Director General, Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye, expressed deep appreciation to all delegates and partners for their active engagement and contributions:
“We have explored vital themes around digital transformation in CNS/ATM and the need to strengthen ATSEP competencies to support a safer and sustainable future for aviation in Africa. The discussions have been rich, the technical sessions enlightening, and the shared experiences truly inspiring.”
Mr. Bamwesigye reaffirmed UCAA’s support for forward-looking initiatives such as the regional collaboration on the use of drones (UAS) for flight calibration, describing it as “a promising innovation that could greatly enhance efficiency and reduce costs in air navigation services.”
The Director General also extended special recognition to Eng. Frank Kofi, President of IFATSEA, congratulating him on his historic election as the first African to lead the Federation, a symbolic milestone for the continent.
