Uganda CAA and ICAO Open ICAO TRIP Strategy Training in Kampala

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), has officially launched the ICAO Traveler Identification Programme (TRIP) Strategy Training, taking place from 18–22 August 2025 at Mestil Hotel, Kampala.
The five-day training has brought together 100 Ugandan officials from immigration, aviation, customs, and law enforcement agencies. The program is designed to strengthen Uganda’s capacity in traveler identification management, a critical component of aviation safety and security.
The training focuses on the five key pillars of the ICAO TRIP strategy: evidence of identity, document issuance and control, machine-readable travel documents, inspection systems and tools, and interoperable applications. These pillars are essential for enhancing secure, reliable, and efficient passenger identification systems.
Speaking at the opening, UCAA Director General, Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye, underscored the importance of accurate identification and seamless facilitation in boosting aviation safety, border security, and the overall passenger experience. He noted that Uganda’s strong performance in the 2024 ICAO Security Audit reaffirmed the country’s commitment to upholding international aviation security standards.
Mr. Bamwesigye further pointed out that with Entebbe International Airport handling 1.13 million international passengers in the first half of 2025, alongside major expansion works, the training is a timely and vital step towards ensuring secure, efficient, and sustainable growth in Uganda’s aviation sector.
