Plane Carrying 12 People Crashes in Kwale, Kenya

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed that an aircraft with 12 people on board crashed near Kwale on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 AM UTC. The aircraft, registered as 5Y-CCA, was on a scheduled flight from the coastal town of Diani to the Kichwa Tembo airstrip, a popular gateway for tourists visiting the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

In a press release, KCAA Director General Emile N. Arao stated that emergency government agencies are already on the ground at the crash site. Their immediate priorities are search and rescue operations and providing assistance to any survivors.

The focus of the investigation will be to determine the cause of the accident and assess the full impact of the incident. Authorities have not yet released details on the condition of the passengers and crew or the possible cause of the crash.

The aircraft’s registration, 5Y-CCA, identifies it as a Cessna 208 Caravan, a single-engine turboprop aircraft commonly used for short-haul passenger and cargo flights in the region.

As the investigation is in its early stages, the KCAA and other agencies have not released further information. The public is awaiting updates on the condition of the 12 individuals on board as rescue efforts continue.
