Ethiopian Airlines Group Commences Construction of Bishoftu International Airport
In a landmark ceremony that marks a significant leap forward for Ethiopian aviation and the nation’s infrastructure, the Ethiopian Airlines Group has officially commenced the construction of the Bishoftu International Airport. The historic groundbreaking event, held on 10th January 2026 signifies the start of an ambitious project set to bolster Ethiopia’s position as a leading aviation hub in Africa.
The ceremony was a momentous occasion, graced by the presence of His Excellency Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Located in the town of Bishoftu, approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa, the airport is designed to complement the existing Bole International Airport.
