Alcinda Pereira Steps Down as Chairperson of African Business Aviation Association (AFBAA)

Alcinda Pereira Bestfly owner and Executive Director has stepped down from her role as Chairwoman of the African Business Aviation Association (AFBAA) citing persistent issues of prejudice and sexism within the industry.

In her resignation letter dated 1st May 2025, Pereira noted that her choice to step down was motivated by a series of challenges she faced over the past 18 months.

“While it has been an honor to hold the position as a proud black woman, I encountered persistent issues of prejudice and sexism within the industry. Unfortunately, my experience has been marked by constant pressure and a hostile environment” said Pereira in her resignation letter.

Ms.Pereira further noted that many of the projects she hoped to implement were sabotaged, revealing a system, that in many ways, still reflects the subtle divisions of a fragmented society, reflected and affecting some of the countries even in Africa.

She further went ahead to note that it’s not just a challenge she faced personally but a reflection of a broader struggle that many women and people of colour continue to encounter across various industries.

In her concluding remarks, Pereira noted that as she leaves AFBAA, she carries with her the lessons learned and a determination to do her part in transforming the aviation sector into a more welcoming and inclusive environment.

Pereira tasked the international community to join her in breaking down the barriers that still exist and ensuring that everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
