In the report, OAG, has released data relating to Africa’s biggest airline, busiest airport in Africa, Africa’s airline capacity for the month of June and the country that has the most domestic airline capacity in Africa.
Biggest airline in Africa
Ethiopian Airlines remains Africa’s largest carrier, operating 1.8m seats in June 2025 – an increase of 119,700.
Turkish Airlines grew at the fastest rate of 15.7%, followed by Air Algerie which grew by 12.1% vs last year.
Capacity continued to decline for Kenya Airways by 19% vs last year.
Busiest Airport in Africa
Cairo remains the largest airport in the continent with 1.6m seats in June 2025.
Algiers saw the fastest growth with an increase of 14.6% vs June 2024.
How much airline capacity is there in Africa for the month of June 2025?
Total capacity across Africa this month has increased by 4.2% vs June 2024 to 15.6m seats.
International capacity represents 69% of total capacity and is up by 4.8% vs June 2024, whilst domestic capacity increased by 3.0%.
Mainline carriers represent 84% of the market and capacity increased by 4% vs June 2024. LCCs grew at a faster rate of 5.6% to 2.5 million seats.
African Country with the most Domestic Airline Capacity?
Capacity to/from North Africa is the largest market with 6.4m seats, growing by 239,800 seats vs last year, a 3.9% increase.
Percentage wise, capacity to/from Southern Africa and Eastern Africa grew at the fastest rate of 8.3% and 8.1% respectively vs last June.
Capacity to/from Central/Western Africa continued to reduce, declining by 3.6% this month vs June 2024.
