African Aviation Leaders to Forge Unified Strategy at Aviation Africa Summit 2025 in Kigali

AFCAC Secretary-General Adeyemi Adefunke will lead discussion at the AFCAC strategic meeting with ministers and civil aviation leaders at the Aviation Africa Summit, as well as heading a regulator session on the Summit stage.

Top aviation leaders from across Africa are set to convene at the Aviation Africa Summit 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda, this September, to develop a unified continental strategy ahead of the 42nd ICAO Assembly.

The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) has announced it will host a high-level strategic meeting on the sidelines of the Summit, scheduled for September 4–5. The gathering will bring together African Ministers of Transport, Directors-General of Civil Aviation, and other senior policymakers to coordinate a common African position on key issues shaping global aviation.

The Aviation Africa Summit is the continent’s leading aviation event, drawing over 70 airlines, as well as manufacturers, suppliers, regulators, and international aviation experts. In addition to high-profile panels and symposia at the Insight Theatre, the summit offers a dynamic platform for policy engagement, industry networking, and strategic alignment.

In its official statement, AFCAC described the Kigali meeting as “a rare platform for top-level leaders to align on shared policy priorities, technical strategies, and joint advocacy efforts that will influence the future of aviation on the continent.”

AFCAC emphasized the strategic significance of the meeting, urging all Ministers and Directors-General to actively participate:

“Beyond coordination, it is a strategic moment to amplify Africa’s aviation agenda on the world stage.”

The session aims to build consensus on critical themes such as:

  • Safety oversight and regulatory harmonization
  • Sustainable aviation development
  • Fair and open competition within African skies
  • Accelerated implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM)

The event is being coordinated by the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA) in partnership with Times Aerospace Events.

“Participation signals a firm commitment to a common African aviation future,” AFCAC noted, “and ensures every voice contributes to shaping the continent’s global aviation footprint.”

As global aviation enters a phase of transformative growth and sustainability focus, the 2025 summit could prove pivotal in positioning Africa as a unified and influential player on the international stage.
